Sometimes I get things wrong.
In the early 2000s I wore feathers on necklaces, glitter gel on my face and some sort of cone hair accessory on a daily basis.
It was all wrong, but I was sure at the time that I was 100% right.
Other things I've been wrong about include:
- thinking black hair dye was a good idea
- white jeans
- popper tracksuits
- 'tattoo' neck chokers
My point is sometimes we think we know what we like, but we can be wrong (and often a 10 year old has fashion choices that are questionable).
2012, along came The Mindy Project, and these titles. I hated it, I was sure. What is this theme about? In the pilot she is introduced as a dreamer, looking for love, working as a OB/GYN doctor. Basically, my opposite. I dismissed it and moved on with my life.
I WAS A FOOL.
For starts I should have seen the warning signs that this program was onto something. BILL HADER was in the pilot.
I can't remember why, but at some point I gave it another chance, and I am so glad that I did. I am going to put this out there, The Mindy Project is at least 5 times better than New Girl* (which started around the same time, and seems to be doing much better). Once I got over my incessant neediness for every character in a TV show to be exactly the same as me, I started to appreciate Mindy for who she was. Which turns out IS me, but in disguise. We have different hopes and dreams, but we share common interests. Much like a good group of friends, it's important that we aren't the same because that would be boring.
Here are just some of the reasons I was wrong about Mindy:
Here are just some of the reasons I was wrong about Mindy:
She shares my love of Tina Fey, anyone that can quote 30 Rock is fine by me.
She shares my inability to be comfortable with my own thoughts. Over thinkers unite!
This is exactly my reaction to anyone under the age of 16. I don't know what to do with them, they are a completely different species. Before you say 'You were that age once!", according to my mum I have always been like this around other children, I was literally born disliking children.
She doesn't take any crap. Especially sexist crap.
She has of love of food, and is proud of it.
There's so much more and I haven't even started on her companions...
And guest stars have included James Franco, Seth Rogen and Chloƫ Sevigny to name just a few.
So I implore you, ignore the titles, which I still can't get into, and give Mindy a chance, and if you don't like her, give her another chance, because you are wrong. Just like I used to be.
*I now expect full on daggers from Hannah for choosing someone else over her beloved Zooey, but I ACCEPT those daggers, and stand by my choice!
